On June 22-23, 2024, with the help from postdoc Taylor Krueger and graduate students Janak (Jay) Solaris, Seth Johnson, and Logan Lancaster, Dr. Fang and José organized the 7th Annual Juntos Chemistry Camp (JCC), for the 2nd time as part of the week-long Juntos Academy (Academia Juntos from June 21-25 this year), for 37 Latino high school students (20 female and 17 male) from Marion County (10), Yamhill County (8), Central Oregon (Crook, Jefferson, Deschutes Counties; 8), Washington County (4), Malheur County (Ontario; 3), Umatilla County (2), Morrow County (1), and Wasco County (1) throughout the State of Oregon. This year’s camp was jointly funded by OSU Open Campus and CF’s NSF Zinc Battery grant with Prof. David Ji. Engaging topics and activities during the camp included discussions of ultrafast spectroscopy, fluorescent proteins, biosensors, and water-in-salt batteries, along with correlations and synergy between various science and engineering fields. Campers lauded the highlights as the Chemistry Jeopardy and making liquid nitrogen ice cream at Linus Pauling Science Center (LPSC) on OSU campus.
